Registered American Saddlebred Horses

for sale

(last updated 1 March 2010)

It looks like the arthritis is taking its toll and I am having to slow down - no more riding horses.  Regrettably, I need to drastically reduce the horse herd. If you see something that interests you, give us a call. Some are pricey, some are real bargains for the quality and ability of the horse, but all are fairly priced so that a profit still exists for the purchaser.

All horses have up-to-date health care; however, cost of current Coggins and any veterinary examinations is the responsibility of the buyer. Most have had some degree of training. All are ready to go back to work.  Contact us with your desires in a horse and price range.  We probably have several available.

NOTE:  It is customary in our industry that a purchaser's agent receive a commission equal to 10% of the sale price.  All prices quoted by the Farm are net to the Farm.  If an agent is used, the purchaser is responsible to add 10 % to the prices, either paid to the Farm, which will be dispensed to the agent, or directly to the agent.

FEATURING SHOW HORSES AND PROSPECTS:

We try to send all of the young horses out to a trainer for 30 days of saddle time and basics.  They usually leave as a late two year old because we believe that the joints and bones, as well as the mind, need some maturity before asking for serious work. All will require ground work and then a total refresher course because they have not been ridden since their initial training. They will remember their lessons with some patience on your part. Saddlebreds are natural sport horses and were used by the US Army Cavalry Jumping Team in the years between WW I and WW II.  These old bloodlines offered here are all capable of being credible Sport Horses as Jumper and Dressage competitors.  They can also earn their keep as Working Ranch Horses. The wonderful American Saddlebred Horse is versatile as well as beautiful!

2000 Mare - Fairlawn Belle - Grey - Sire: General Withers by Hell Cats' Reveille, Dam: Konda Gale by Misty Assignment by Special Assignment (Society Rex) out of Sea Scape by Captain Courageous. This mare is a line-bred Kalarama Rex bloodline which is extremely rare today. Konda Gale's bloodlines go back to my Great grandfather's trotting stallion, Almont, who was noted for his fluid trotting action and his almost human intelligence.  This mare cribs, so we keep a cribbing strap on her in the stall. She has shown in open harness and under saddle with a novice juvenile rider. She is about 15.3 hands with a long neck and a tiny throat latch.  Click for picture

2002 Mare - Our Grey Lady - very dark Grey - Sire: Our Grey Dawn, Dam: Alexandria by Hell Cats' Reveille by Broadlands' Kilarney (full sister to the fine harness stallion, Merrill's Marauder). This mare is lovely but does have a low back. She should go to the Academy or Juvenile classes where she will not be stripped. She is broke to harness and saddle. She is about 15.2 hands, very pretty with a gorgeous eye and a long neck.  SOLD to Kentucky Click for picture

2001 Mare - Classy Twigg - chestnut with white hairs but did not turn grey - Sire: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by Hell Cats' Reveille, Dam: Captivating Twigg by Badge of Gallantry by Gallant Guy O'Goshen.  Hell Cat and B.G. were my foundation stallions and this mare is the last one of this breeding. She is a big, strong mare who is a good representative of both sides of her lineage.  She was shown in harness, has been in the lesson program and has shown under saddle on the local circuit, I believe. She apparently was bred and had a foal in 2009.  I am strongly considering keeping her myself.  Click for picture

2006 Stallion - The Longest Day - Grey -Bay-base color - Sire: Our Grey Dawn by Hell Cats' Reveille (out of Chocolate Kiss by Royal Kalarama), Dam: Perpetual Kiss by The Silver Lining by Yorktown (out of RHF Love Notes by Starheart Peavine).  Starheart Peavine is another link to my Great grandfather's trotting stallion, Almont. The Longest Day cribs and when I get him into better condition, I will put a cribbing strap on him. He returned in such deplorable condition that I was happy to have him showing interest in anything. I keep hay in front of him to improve his physical and mental state.  He is a little shy, but that will change.  He is such a handsome horse with beauty, motion and ability - well worth the effort to bring him back to life. He would make a great breeding stallion and I think that next spring could be put to work. I would recommend that only light work be presented to him at first. The Longest Day is a tremendous bargain at this time.  SOLD to Monroe, Louisiana  Click for picture

1996 Mare - Our Moon River - Grey - Sire: Our Grey Dawn by Hell Cats' Reveille, Dam: West Point's Cadet Sweetheart by Command Attention.  This is a lovely 16 hand mare.  I kept her to be a broodmare and had her worked for Western riding, so that she could be my farm riding horse.  The local trainer was all compliments and when he brought her back, he rode her bareback in front of my barn at night with a halter and a lead.  I intended to send her back for Reining training, but I've gotten grounded by the doctor, so it seems futile.  I am reluctantly offering her for sale and only to an approved buyer. She is not broodmare sound. The vet ultra-sounded and saw cysts.  She is a pet and will come to you in the pasture.  SOLD TO PADUCAH, KENTUCKY Click for picture

2001 Gelding - Kona Quivira - Black. Sire: Quiver by Foxfire's Prophet, Dam: Doubletree's Tea Party by Doubletree's General D.  Three-Gaited Pleasure, but has been gaited so he will slip into a rack if confused and rushed. If you lower your hands and talk to him, he will settle back to a trot.  I bought Kona to be an ambassador for the Saddlebred in my lesson program; but lately he has become a pasture ornament because I no longer give riding instruction. I use a German martingale for lessons.  He is drop-dead gorgeous and his black coat is everyone's dream come true. Like most black horses he will turn brown if allowed to be in the summer sun. It has taken some work to get him there, but he will let a rider mount from steps and remains calm.  I had a rider fall off at a trot and he stopped and waited.  This is an excellent trait in my book. I have had an autistic child ride him and he apparently sensed that she was precious cargo and I had to stay behind him to make him trot. We ride with a crop because he will drop down to a walk sometimes.  I recently had a show rider take him outside and he can still look like a show horse.  Kona has never been shown, except as a futurity baby, and would probably become nervous without a lot of patience on the part of the rider.  I don't use cross-ties.  I use a single tie in the stall. Kona is in the pasture by day and a stall by night. He can be caught in the pasture. He doesn't seem to have any meanness in him, he just hasn't been taught.  He could be a useful horse and would love to have his very own human. He is so beautiful that he will make anyone want to own a Saddlebred. Click for picture Additional photos of lessons can be sent upon request. SOLD to Oklahoma

2000 Mare - Miss Molly Twigg - Liver Chestnut.   Sire: Bugle Notes (sired by Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy out of West Point on Parade by Command Attention, dam Plainview's Hiawatha (a sister to Five Gaited World's Grand Champion, Plainview's Julia).  Dam: Ohbygollymissmolly by Our Grey Dawn.  She is big, has a lot of motion front and rear, pretty and has quite a hook - looks 5-gaited, but could easily be an excellent sport horse.  Loves to free jump.  Molly has had 30 days riding and  is under saddle for walk and trot at this time. If you can train, she could be a real bargain for you.   Click for picture   SOLD to Baton Rouge, La.

2004 Gelding - Bay - General Withers Barrage (Barry)- Sire: General Withers, Dam: Audacious Twigg by Hell Cats' Reveille.  Motion, looks, and show horse ways. A very tall horse with lots of substance, he will probably mature over 16 hands, and just might be suitable for a sport horse. He shows outstanding potential as a jumper when put through a free-jump chute. I have a short clip of this if you are looking for a sport horse.  He should slow gait and rack without too much difficulty and is a very strong trotter. I would aim him for the gaited pleasure division or the sport horse arena. He has the pizazz to be a show horse, but has a beautiful, kind eye and will undoubtedly be a pleasure to own. 2004 Stallion - Grey - Caisson - Sire: General Withers by Our Grey Dawn, whose dam was Chocolate Kiss the last living daughter of Royal Kalarama by Kalarama Rex, making Our Grey Dawn a line-bred Kalarama Rex stallion. Chocolate Kiss's dam was Eagle's Charm by Grey Eagle. Our Grey Dawn's sire was Hell Cats' Reveille by Broadlands Kilarney by Kalarama Colonel by Kalarama Rex, Dam: Carolina Waltz by Johnnie E by Decoration Genius and out of Carolina Eagle by Grey Eagle, second dam Inspiration Waltz by Waltz King, third dam Kingrea's Lady Suzette by Mountjoy's Aristocrat. Caisson has 15 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in his 7 generation pedigree. Spectacular and very tall, over 16 hands,  with a wonderful willing attitude, athletic ability, motion, beauty and a long high-set neck. A full brother to Fairlawn's Lady In Grey and The Grey Prince, we will keep him as a stallion since he shows such promise. He has completed two months of saddle training and was ridden outside. Caisson has been bred and produced a large gifted filly, Queen of Battle. This stallion should remain entire since his bloodlines are very important to the preservation of the American Saddlebred.  If you plan to geld him, please do not call. He will be a fabulous show or sport horse and breeding horse. Click for picture

2004 Filly - Grey -  Coosa River Mist - Sire: Coosa by General Withers, Dam Princess Grey Eagle by Our Grey Dawn.  She has 14 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in her 7 generation pedigree. This is one bundle of energy - a real sports car type and gorgeous as a bonus.  Very upfronted with lots of motion. She has a late birthday, but has been to the trainer for 30 days and is green but ready to go on to work.  She probably will be 15.2 at maturity and will be a quality show horse. The trainer liked her and she did well in her basic walk/trot/canter work. She was ridden outside. Her sire, Coosa, is a three-quarter brother to Fairlawn Belle.  Click for picture !  Sold to Louisiana

2005 Filly -  Grey - Listen To The Wind -  Sire Wingate's Chindit by Hell Cats' Reveille, Dam RSVP by King's Melody Man. RSVP's dam was a two times World's Champion Pleasure Horse in the 1970s. She has 20 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in her 7 generation pedigree. Wingate was 18 years and RSVP was 23 years when they were bred. (Unfortunately, RSVP died in 2006.)  This one was worth the wait! She trots level on both ends and has the sudden acceleration at the trot of a true gaited horse.  She has a shoulder and headset that breeders dream of. Her sire is a full blood-brother to Merrill's Marauder, who was Kentucky County Fair Fine Harness Champion and placed third in the World's Champion Kentucky County Fair Fine Harness class. She is pure class.  She is not for the timid trainer; does not need a heavy hand, but requires patience and thoughtful training. She could be tough if mishandled, but we honor her desire to be dominant every now and then, so have little trouble with her learning. The trainer was very complimentary and since he is a Western rider, he is very proud that she was beginning to neck rein - a sign of intelligence and workability, I think. I think that she can be a traditional show horse or a sport horse.  Click for picture

2005 Filly - Bay - Fairlawn's Wind Song - Sire General Withers by Our Grey Dawn, Dam Audacious Twigg by Hell Cats' Reveille. She will probably mature around 16 hands. She has show horse ways with a big motor, good looks and so much motion. She will be a show horse or a top sport horse!  Audacious Twigg is a fourth generation Twigg on our farm and goes through the dam line to Jack Twigg - very old Denmark blood and very rare today - and Astral King. I have had Cynthia Hecht, distinguished Saddlebred historian and pedigree analyzer, check my broodmare pedigrees for the X-Factor for the large heart..  Her  report on Audacious Twigg says that she "appears to be double copy by pedigree and offspring of ancestors. Her bottom line is 6 generations of double copy mares. She has 11 [8-10 is normal in a horse of Louisville quality] Hall of Fame Broodmares in her 5 generation pedigree plus Wing Commander three times in the 5th generation through Command Attention. There are 31 mares in a 5 generation pedigree; 30 of hers appear to be double copy. The only mare that is single copy is BHF mare Nancy Thurman, who obviously passed the heart to Kalarama Rex. I haven't done the cumulative show record yet. Broadlands' Kilarney comes from a line of Hall of Fame Broodmares - his dam, 2nd, 3rd and 4th dams are all in the Hall of Fame. These dynasties of BHF mares are extremely rare. Back further, she has Flirtation Walk and Kate Haines, two of our most legendary broodmares, both of them on each side of her pedigree." None of this can be proven except by measurement, but the pedigree analysis is pretty accurate. General Withers is a cross of our two original stallions, Hell Cats' Reveille by Broadlands' Kilarney and Badge of Gallantry by Gallant Guy O'Goshen, both dominant Denmark bloodlines.  She has been long lined and has been ridden a few times. This mare will be a show mare and then an exceptional broodmare. Click for picture

1991 Mare - Liver chestnut- Our Lavender Blue - Registered: The Half Saddlebred Registry of America - Sire Kilarney's Blue Skies by Broadlands Kilarney, Dam Hackney Mare - I bought this 14.2 hand pony to use in the lesson program when she was about 9 years old.  She has been used mainly as a lunge line, trotting pony.  She is safe to work around and has never offered to kick, bite, strike or do anything wicked.  Her only limitation here is that she trots fast and it takes 20-30 minutes of work before she slows down (very typical of the Hackney ponies!). By the time she slows down, the lesson is over.  She would do well in a program where there were several lessons using her each day.  My students end the lesson with a little bare-back time and she is fine.  She is an easy keeper and loves to be groomed and petted.  The students all love her.  We used her in a clinic, where the students painted her with water-base paint, and she was a very willing subject. She lives in a stall by night and is in the pasture by day and stays away from the aggressive big horses. Our Lavender Blue is a great pony and could go home with someone - can be caught in the field.  SALE PENDING

2006 Filly - Chestnut - Rosemary Twigg - Sire Wingate's Chindit (blood brother to Merrill's Marauder) Dam Ohbygollymissmolly by Our Grey Dawn.  She is a gorgeous little power house packed with motion, ability and beauty. She has that Look At Me attitude. Her bloodlines are very old and incorporate direct lines to King Barrymore, Jack Twigg, and Kalarama Rex with lots of Wing Commander thrown in. She would sure make a grand broodmare to bring back some of the old American Saddlebred qualities.  Click for picture  SOLD to Lafayette, La.

2006 Filly - Grey - Liver chestnut base - Waltzing With The Wind - Sire Wingate's Chindit, who is a full blood-brother to Merrill's Marauder, who was Kentucky County Fair Fine Harness Champion and placed third in the World's Champion Kentucky County Fair Fine Harness class. Dam Carolina Waltz by Johnnie E by Decoration Genius and out of Carolina Eagle by Grey Eagle. Her second dam is Inspiration Waltz by Waltz King. Third dam is Kingrea's Lady Suzette by Mountjoy's Aristocrat and fourth dam Guilford's Gigi by Veiled Prophet. She has 21 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in her 7 generation pedigree. Cynthia Hecht, artist, historian and pedigree analyzer, states in her pedigree analysis of Carolina Waltz that the "presence of the X-Factor for the large heart is possible at a 50% probability but only physical measurement can guarantee the large heart is present." Presence of the X-Factor makes Waltzing With the Wind a better choice for being a future champion. Carolina Waltz's foals just keep getting better and better. No matter what stallion that I breed her to, the foal is outstanding. This one weighed 120# at birth, tall, beautiful, so much motion, long neck, great hook, lovely shoulder and beautiful hip.  She makes you want to stay in the breeding business! She will be a top show horse one day.  She has been in training for 90 days and has been long lined and ridden under saddle.   Click for picture  Sale Pending

2006 Gelding - Bay - Fairlawn's Beau Twigg - Sire: General Withers, Dam: Audacious Twigg by Hell Cats' Reveille. What a sweetie! He walked a Spanish Walk when he was first born and I'm sure that it will come back easily later on. Beauty, charisma, motion, ability, high head, short back, great angle to shoulder and hip.  He is a keeper! You will want him in your  show string.  Audacious Twigg is a fourth generation Twigg on our farm and goes through the dam line to Jack Twigg - very old Denmark blood and very rare today - and Astral King. General Withers is a cross of our two original stallions, Hell Cats' Reveille by Broadlands' Kilarney and Badge of Gallantry by Gallant Guy O'Goshen, both dominant Denmark bloodlines. I was going to leave him a stallion, but I just don't have the strength to handle more than one each year and I chose The Longest Day.  Refer to Fairlawn's Wind Song for information on Audacious Twigg.  The X-Factor only transfers to the fillies, but the show horse ways from the great hearts in the pedigree are applicable to the males.  Click for picture

2007 Gelding - Chestnut - Jeffrey Twigg - Sire: Wingate's Chindit, Dam Ohbygollymissmolly by Our Grey Dawn. He is a full brother to Rosemary Twigg. He is beautiful, talented and athletic. He has lots of natural motion and show horse ways and he is very intelligent - quite a nice package. He was gelded at 8 days to try to get more growth, since his sister is of moderate size.  He has exceptional ability and will be competitive in the show horse world. His legs are long, so I hope that he is going to grow in the future and should make around 15.2.  He is the only two year old on the farm, so he needs to find a new home.  Click for picture  SOLD to Monroe, Louisiana

2008 - This crop of foals is exceptional.  All are blessed with beauty, motion, athleticism, upright necks and all the qualities of the versatile Saddlebred. They are led to and from the paddock each day, farrier has trimmed them and they have been wormed recently. Immunizations were given in November.

2008 filly - Goodbye Kiss  - Bay with four tall white socks and a white stripe. Sire: Our Grey Dawn. Dam: Perpetual Kiss by The Silver Lining out of a Starheart Peavine mare. She has 22 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in her 7 generation pedigree. Quite beautiful, very tall with much motion and that special show horse look. Starheart Peavine traces to my great grandfather's trotting stallion, Almont. She will be in training in early May.  Click for picture

2008 stallion - Tuskegee - Black bay, turning Grey. Sire: Our Grey Dawn, Dam: Courageous Modelette by Admiral's Silverado. This beautiful dark bay colt is already turning grey and has no white markings. Traces to Chocolate Kiss by Royal Kalarama two times through sire and dam, plus multiple traces to Broadlands' Kilarney and Wing Commander through Courageous Admiral and Command Attention. His only problem is that he is smaller than the other yearlings  but is growing fast. (The Courageous Admiral line tends to be smaller but are wonderful gaited horses.) He just needs time to grow and mature. He is so smart and agreeable and has been the first to learn every skill. He could be a valuable asset in the breeding shed to improve the intense Valley View Supreme lines that are so prevelent today.  He has 20 Broodmare Hall of Fame broodmares in his 7 generation pedigree. SOLD to Louisiana  Click for picture

2008 stallion - Artillery - Bay. Sire: General Withers, Dam: Rhapsody in Motion by Castletown out of a mare by Broadlands' Kilarney. This colt has three close traces to Broadlands' Kilarney with a lot of Wing Commander plus so many old bloodlines. Artillery has 23 Broodmare Hall of Fame broodmares in his 7 generation pedigree. He is loaded with motion, is powerful and very tall. If you are old enough to remember, he is very typical of the Broadlands' Kilarney/Wing Commander cross. Worthy of remaining a stallion. He will be an excellent show horse and an outstanding breeding stallion. SOLD to Arizona  Click for picture

2008 stallion - The Grey Prince - Grey colt by General Withers, Dam Carolina Waltz by Johnny E.  Carol has never had anything but a quality foal.  This one is a beautiful rose grey, talented, with exceptional motion and worthy of remaining a stallion, definitely a show horse! He has 15 Broodmare Hall of Fame broodmares in his 7 generation pedigree. Click for picture  In training with Larry Bush, Scottsdale, Arizona

2009 - Once again, we have an exceptional crop of youngsters.  They are all capable of going to the show ring or sport horse arenas. All are broke to lead and to be caught at the gate of the paddock to return to their stall at  night.

2009 gelding - Our Liberator - Chestnut with wide white stripe and chrome.  Sire: Wingate's Chindit, Dam: Ice Dreamer by Vanilla Ice.  He will be tall and is short backed with just  enough angle to the croup to rack.  He has so much motion and is absolutely beautiful. He has 16 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in his 7 generation pedigree. Click for picture

2009 filly - Queen of Battle - Chestnut. Sire: Caisson, Dam: Rhapsody in Motion by Castletown, 2nd dam by Broadlands Kilarney. Caisson's first foal, and what a great beginning! A very tall filly with the good looks of her triple Broadlands Kilarney bloodlines, long neck and lots of motion. This little lady has 23 Broodmare Hall of Fame mares in her pedigree!

2009 filly - Fairy Mist - Grey/dark chestnut base. Sire: Pacific Mist, Dam: Gallantry's Jarmara by Badge of Gallantry by Gallant Guy O'Goshen. Small and dainty, but catching up.  She is beautiful and talented, much motion, high-set neck, everything is right on her. She has 21 Broodmare Hall of Fame broodmares in her 7 generation pedigree.

2009 filly - Kiss In The Mist - Grey/bay base  filly. Sire: Pacific Mist, Dam: Perpetual Kiss by The Silver Lining, 2nd dam by Starheart Peavine.  Beautiful and very tall, flashy,  great motion, long neck, what more would you desire? Starheart Peavine traces to my great grandfather's trotting stallion, Almont. She has 22 Broodmare Hall of Fame broodmares in her 7 generation pedigree.
